Dillinger heavy plate for the new Etzel-Wardenburg natural gas pipeline
A contribution to the security of supply of natural gas in Germany
Open Grid Europe (OGE) is building a natural gas pipeline from Etzel via Wardenburg to Drohne to expand its supra-regional long-distance gas transportation system. The north-south pipeline consists of the two pipeline sections from the storage facility in Etzel to the compressor station in Wardenburg (EWA) and from Wardenburg to Drohne (WAD). In total, the pipeline measures approx. 138 kilometers and has a diameter of DN 1200 mm and DN 1000 mm respectively. The new pipelines will create the necessary transport capacity to transport the liquefied gas that arrives in Wilhelmshaven into the German natural gas pipeline network, thereby making a significant contribution to the security of natural gas supplies in Germany. The new Etzel-Wardenburg-Drohne project will ensure the supra-regional supply of consumers and industry.
The two pipeline sections are scheduled for completion by the end of 2026 and 2027 respectively.
The EUROPIPE plant in Mülheim, a company of the Dillinger Group, is building these large-diameter pipes, which are also certified for the transportation of hydrogen, to enable the transportation of alternative energies. Dillinger supplied 28,500 tons of L485ME grade steel in widths greater than 3.5 m for the production of the longitudinally welded large-diameter pipes for the Etzel-Wardenburg pipeline section.
